Cru de Cacao

At Cru de Cacao, we like to do things differently. Our commitment to perfection begins with selecting the finest chocolate and ends with refined products. We believe that every step in the production process matters, which is why we invest in innovative techniques and the highest quality standards to ensure that every bite of our chocolate offers an unforgettable experience. Our chocolatier, Tom Stalpers, combines traditional craftsmanship with modern creativity, resulting in unique flavors.

Our passion goes beyond taste; we aim to make a positive impact by sourcing sustainably, trading fairly, and continuously improving. At Cru de Cacao, we believe that chocolate should not only be delicious but also generate a livable income for cocoa farmers.

Signature Cru de Cacao

Our chocolate creations stand for purity and quality. We strive to bring out the full, authentic flavors of each basic ingredient, which is why we carefully select only the finest ingredients. In addition to this dedication to quality, we aim to give our chocolate creations a unique signature. For example, we have molded the classic Cru de Mendiants into a square shape, a reference to our company logo.

Our commitment goes beyond taste. Through the Ghana Healthcare Program, we actively contribute to the health and well-being of cocoa farmers and their families in the Suhum region of Ghana. This program ensures that our chocolate not only excels in quality but also has a positive impact on the communities where our cocoa is sourced.

Tom Stalpers 1

Tom Stalpers

The craftsmanship behind all of Cru de Cacao's chocolate creations lies in the hands of Tom Stalpers, a chocolatier through and through. In 2018, he tasted Felchlin chocolate for the first time. He didn’t have to think long and immediately knew: "I need to do something with this chocolate." Tom wants to show people that chocolate can offer a wide range of flavors and doesn't always have to taste "sweet."

This passion led to the founding of Chocolaterie Cru de Cacao at the nostalgic industrial complex Fabriek 59 in Tilburg at the end of 2019. With notable references like the Kurhaus in Scheveningen, the former Michelin-starred restaurant Boreas in Heeze, and Maison van den Boer in Veghel, Tom has built a solid foundation for his passion and craftsmanship—one that he continues to develop every day with Cru de Cacao!

In addition to craftsmanship, running a chocolaterie involves many other aspects. Maintaining the website and being active on social media are essential these days, and Tom's girlfriend, Maxime, helps him with these tasks. Shortly after they met, Maxime also became captivated by chocolate, especially due to the inspiring story behind Felchlin chocolate.

"For over 10 years, I've been very conscious about the origins of my food, which I find incredibly important. At first, I knew little about the world of chocolate, but it turns out to be a fascinating industry. Cocoa is actually a very special and exclusive product. Together with Tom, I love sharing the message that chocolate is so much more than just a sweet treat."
