Fair Direct Cacao

There are various certifications that ensure fair and sustainable chocolate production. Our chocolate carries the Fair Direct Cacao label, which is strictly monitored by the Swiss producer Felchlin. This label stands for the direct purchase of cocoa beans ("Direct Cacao") and promotes long-term relationships with cocoa farmers through long-term contracts.

The cocoa price is based on the market price, supplemented by a Felchlin premium for sustainability and quality, which can be up to 30% higher than the market price ("Fair"). This premium guarantees a living income for the farmers and improves their quality of life, with investments in organic farming, village amenities, school materials, and emergency aid.

Cru de Cacao Iconen groen - Fair For Farmers

Fair for Farmers

To emphasize that our chocolate contributes to a living income for cocoa farmers and truly improves their quality of life, we have introduced the "Fair for Farmers" icon. This symbol represents our commitment to sourcing cocoa from a sustainable and direct supply chain, where fair trade relationships are central. It not only ensures that farmers receive a fair price for their cocoa but also that they work under good labor conditions and in a healthy environment.

This means adhering to the principles set out in the Constitution of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which prohibits forced labor and child labor. Additionally, the icon highlights our commitment to supporting communities and promoting social and economic development in cocoa-growing regions. "Fair for Farmers" stands for chocolate that is not only delicious but also responsible and fair.

Involvement of Cru de Cacao

Our commitment to sustainable chocolate and fair trade relationships goes beyond just the chocolate we use. We apply these values in the sourcing of all our raw materials, such as vanilla and sugar, ensuring they are responsibly obtained.

Additionally, we are dedicated to making climate-conscious choices across the board: from selecting environmentally friendly packaging materials to minimizing our energy consumption. In this way, we contribute to a more sustainable future, with every step in our production process rooted in respect for both people and the environment.

Fair Direct Cacao Principles

  • Every cocoa delivery undergoes a thorough inspection to ensure it meets our aroma standards.

  • To guarantee the high quality of our cocoa, we pay prices that are well above the market rate.

  • We only use cocoa beans with a clearly regulated origin, ensuring that we know exactly who is responsible for the cultivation of the cocoa beans we purchase.

  • We are familiar with the working and production conditions on-site and are committed to ensuring that cocoa is produced in a socially acceptable manner for the farmers and their families, in harmony with nature.

  • We maintain close, equitable business relationships with our local partners in the country of origin and visit them regularly.

  • We enter into long-term contracts to ensure that future generations of farmers can also generate income.
